We’re excited to announce that RMS has a new place to park… your bicycle, that is!
Over October and November, the district installed modern bike racks for use by students and staff. You’ll find it just a few steps away from the old bicycle parking cage. We know that the snow will start falling soon, but students are invited to start using the new racks immediately.
Additionally, there is a brand-new bike fix-it station available for use by cycling Spartans. This repair stand comes equipped with a built-in air pump and the tools for basic bike maintenance and adjustment. Education for how to use the fix-it station will be created over the winter and incorporated into future bike education lessons during PE classes.
The new bike parking was planned with the help of RMS students. In May 2021, we led an engagement activity during lunch hour and students were invited to “design” the new layout and share their ideas for what would make the area more welcoming. The broad outlines suggested that day, and many of the specifics, were incorporated into the final design.
Security Updates: The new bicycle racks accommodate all styles of bike locks. If students forget their locks, there are U-locks available for students to check out for the day from the main RMS office. The bike racks are located next to one of the building’s recently upgraded surveillance cameras.
