Calling Sixth Grade Parent/Guardian Volunteers & Interested Community Members

Remember the survey that went out about Eagle Bluff? Well, the results are in. The school community had positive feedback on the trip and the majority of students that did not attend (or do not plan to attend) didn’t give cost as the rationale, but that they didn’t feel comfortable having their children away from home overnight.

In response to this information, the middle school and district leaders plan to integrate day trips into the middle school curriculum with similar experiences to what Eagle Bluff offered AND they have committed to supporting an Eagle Bluff trip for incoming sixth graders who are interested in continuing with this tradition.

Sounds great, so what’s the catch?

Funding both the day trips and the Eagle Bluff trip within the current budget is not possible. Since the day trips offer the opportunity for more students to participate, the district funding will support the day trips (there may also be additional costs to families just like Eagle Bluff in previous years.) The district has confirmed support/approval of the Eagle Bluff trip only if it can be organized by volunteers (families & staff) and paid for through fundraising and other donations (family, friends and community members).

This is where you come in!

Are you passionate about the Eagle Bluff trip? Is it a tradition you would like to see continued? Sign up to be part of the planning team! The planning team needs 6-10 volunteers to commit to developing and implementing the following:

  • Total budget: Including cost per student, transportation,  lodging, food services and more.
  • Fundraising: Identify, plan and implement all fundraising efforts.
  • Communication: Write and send all communication to families including fundraising/payment expectations, updates on the trip planning, permission slips, etc.

Timeline

Most of the communication and planning need to be completed before the end of August and fundraising needs to be well underway by the beginning of the school year. The work isn’t being done from scratch, so volunteers will have access to documents from past years and to staff who are experienced with the trip.

We have heard from a number of passionate Eagle Bluff advocates who want to see this experience continue. We need you now because this cannot happen without family and community support. If you are interested in joining the planning team, sign-up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090C45ABAA2DA0FA7-eagle.

Thank you,
