Students parents and a teacher at Richfield Middle School open house

Full Distance Learning Updates

  • We will officially move to full distance learning beginning Monday, November 30. This includes all students who are receiving special education services.
  • Based on feedback from families, students and staff we have modified our weekly schedule.
  • You can access the new schedule here. The key changes/updates are outlined below:
    • All class periods (1-7) will now meet twice a week for 45 minutes.
    • Asynchronous lessons will no longer be used unless a teacher is absent.
    • All students will have a common advisory day on Wednesday mornings.
    • All students will have a morning meeting with their advisory teacher from 9-9:20 a.m. each day.
    • Staff office hours will now be three times a week.
    • Ten-minute breaks have been built into the schedule after each class.
    • “A” classes will now meet Monday/Tuesday and “B” classes will meet Thursday/Friday each week.
  • Advisory teachers have been reviewing the new schedule and helping students create their own schedule this week.
  • Advisory rosters have been modified to ensure balanced class sizes.
    • Students who receive special education and/or EL services will have an advisory with their case manager or EL teacher.
    • Students and parents/guardians will be notified next week whether or not their advisory teacher will be changing.
  • Thank you for your continued feedback, support, understanding and flexibility. Please know that the success of ALL students is our number one priority at RMS. We know there have been many changes and unknowns this year and we can’t thank you enough for your partnership!
  • Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s advisory teacher with any questions or concerns.

Quarter One Grades

  • Teachers will have quarter one grades by the end of the day today.
  • Letter grades A-D will be present on the grade reports.
  • Due to all of the changes and uncertainty COVID-19 has brought this fall, there will be no failing grades (Fs) for quarter one. Instead of an F, students will earn an Incomplete grade (I) for that particular class.
    • The incomplete grade will be removed at the end of quarter two and replaced with the grade the student earned for quarter two.
      • For example, if a student earned an incomplete for quarter one in math and then earned a C for quarter two, the student would receive a C letter grade for both quarters one and two.

Updated Attendance Process Reminders

  • All students should attend the daily synchronous (live) morning meeting each day from 9-9:20 a.m. This counts toward the student’s daily attendance.
  • Teachers will submit attendance by 2 p.m. each day.
  • We are working to begin daily text messages for attendance beginning the week after Thanksgiving.
    • These texts will go out at 7 p.m. each day to the parents/guardians of any student who did not attend or engage with school that day.
  • Our outreach workers will run an updated attendance report at 10 a.m. the next day and contact families of any students on the list to identify areas of need/support.
  • Please continue to call the RMS attendance line if your child is ill and/or unable to engage with their classes so our attendance clerk can mark them as an excused absence.

  • NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center is partnering with Dakota Provisions and other organizations to provide a food giveaway that is open to the community. They will be distributing 20,000 pounds of food including meat, fresh produce and dry goods.
