Fourth Annual Richfield Powwow to be Hosted on Oct. 30

Richfield Public Schools invites students, families, staff and community members to the fourth annual Richfield Powwow on Friday, Oct. 30, at Richfield High School.

Led by Indigenous Education Coordinator Samantha Weaver and members of the Indigenous Parent & Guardian Advisory Committee, the Powwow is a community celebration honoring Native American culture, traditions and community.

Guests can experience an evening of traditional drumming and dancing, including exhibition and contest dances, along with special dances honoring graduating seniors and community members. The evening will also include recognition of Native American veterans and community elders, local Native artists and craftspeople, community organizations, food vendors and activities including the community-favorite Potato Dance.

The Powwow provides an opportunity for Native students and families to celebrate their cultures, identities and traditions while inviting the broader Richfield community to come together, learn and celebrate. Everyone is welcome, and the event is free and open to the public.

Please ask permission before photographing dancers, especially those wearing regalia, and do not touch a dancer’s regalia. Seating designated for dancers and drummers should remain available for them.

Guests will also be asked to stand during the Grand Entry, Flag Song and honoring songs. The emcee will provide guidance throughout the evening about when it is appropriate to stand and other powwow traditions.

We look forward to welcoming our community to Richfield High School for an evening of culture, connection and celebration.
