Supporting Student Health & Wellness

Our health services team works collaboratively with school and community partners to remove health-related barriers to learning and to promote school and life success. Licensed school nurses and health service assistants work together to protect the health and safety of students toward this goal.

Licensed School Nurses

  • Develop and supervise a system of first aid, illness management, emergency care and health-related protocols
  • Assess and plan for students with chronic health conditions
  • Communicate with students, parents/guardians, school staff and health care providers about student health 
  • Provide health resources to staff, students and families  
  • Coordinate prevention and control of communicable diseases
  • Monitor immunization compliance in accordance with state statute
  • Hold a baccalaureate degree, RN license, school nurse license and public health certification

Health Service Assistants

  • Provide routine and emergency care for ill or injured students    
  • Assist students with health procedures related to chronic health conditions
  • Communicate with students, parents/guardians, school staff and health care providers about student health
  • Maintain documentation of immunizations and other student health information as part of the student health record
  • Administer medication per district protocol
  • Are certified in CPR and trained in first aid
