Beacons is a collaboration of the Boys and Girls Club of Minneapolis, the YMCA and the Richfield Public School District. Beacons staff are trained educators who work closely with you to create and support activities that interest you. Stop by the Beacons office or give us a call to get connected, we can’t wait to meet you!

About Beacons: The Beacons program engages young people as leaders and learners to create equitable schools and communities. Beacons turns schools into community centers by running free, high-quality programs after school and in the summer–all focused on belonging, relationships, enrichment and learning. What you should know:

• Drama club is held on Wednesdays from 3:45-5 p.m. 
• Students must have their own ride home or attend Beacons after.
• There are roles for on-stage as well as tech and set design.
• Students will create skits and explore several different acting techniques.
• We have a partnership with an outside theater company.
• Students have the opportunity to participate in school productions in the winter and in the spring.
• Our final performance is the spring play and it is usually a musical.

Join the yearbook! Help capture and preserve school events and activities. 

Our yearbook is a student publication. Every effort will be made to be inclusive, accurate and exhaustive in student coverage. Yearbook is an educational process, and we apologize if mistakes are made.

Join us for a fun journey through the Spanish-speaking world! Each week, we’ll “travel” to a new country, learning about its language, music, food and traditions. Play games, make crafts, try tasty snacks and practice Spanish—all while having fun and exploring new cultures! Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays after school.

The Knitting and Crochet Club is a creative and cozy after-school activity for Richfield Middle School students interested in fiber arts.

In this club, members can:

• Learn the basics of knitting and crocheting, or improve existing skills.
• Work on fun, personal projects like scarves, hats and small crafts.
• Share ideas, get help with tricky stitches and enjoy social time with fellow crafters.

It's a wonderful, relaxing way to explore creativity and learn a useful, lifelong skill. The club meets Thursdays after school.

The Yoga Club is a welcoming program where Richfield Middle School students can unwind, de-stress and recharge after the school day.

The club provides a space to:

• Learn fundamental yoga poses and safe stretching techniques.

• Practice mindfulness and breathing exercises to help improve focus and manage stress.

• Enhance physical strength, flexibility and balance.

• Build self-confidence and a positive mindset in a supportive, judgment-free environment.

It is open to students of all experience levels—no prior yoga knowledge is needed! Yoga Club meets Tuesdays after school.

The Chess Club is a fun and engaging after-school activity open to all Richfield Middle School students, from beginners to experienced players.

Members meet to:

• Learn new strategies and techniques for the "royal game."
• Solve chess puzzles to sharpen their tactical thinking.
• Play guided games and participate in friendly tournaments.
• Develop critical thinking, focus and sportsmanship in a relaxed environment.

It's a great opportunity to connect with peers and elevate your game!
